Windows Vista error 0x0000007E

Windows Vista recently received an update from Microsoft causing the Blue Screen of Death, error 0x0000007E. The Microsoft Update that caused the issue is KB973879. And it can be removed.

To remove the errant update:

1 - start your computer in Safe Mode - by pressing F8 during the boot cycle.

2 - log into your compuer

3 - open the Control Panel

4 - open Programs and Features

5 - select "View Installed Updates"

6 - sort the updates by Date

7 - locate KB973879 - you may need to expand the width of the name column.

8 - remove the update

9 - confirm removal

10 - reboot your computer
